metal study #2 (sails detail) approximately 9”x6”x8” These metal pieces emerged out of my wish last winter to create more dynamic designs for sculptural collages through the use of armatures. Originally influenced by the shape of neurons, I began by working with a repeating, varying shape (the arch)- in an effort to find form for my ideas regarding matter and energy on metaphoric cellular and atomic levels. At I-Park I became interested in ideas of tension and vehicular travel, working on the shore of a breezy pond and within an intricate natural habitat. I arrived in the season of the moths, witnessing cocoon covered oak trees, then observing drying moths by the thousands, then being surrounded by flying moths, and finally lamenting a ground-cover of corpses. The cycle had its purpose for the forest and also a significance for me in its midst. |

rarely am I minimalist, but this piece turned out to be enough, for me - bare bones. |
